Final Fantasy is a highly successful and critically acclaimed media franchise created by Hironobu Sakaguchi. The franchise is centred around a series of fantasy and science-fantasy role playing video games (RPGs). Since the release of the eponymous game in 1987 and with over 100 million units sold, Final Fantasy has become one of the best selling video game franchises of all time. 

 

A key element to the franchise's success are its soundtracks; chief composer Nobuo Uematsu single handedly composing scores for the first nine games. The music is dynamic, ranging from very light background music to emotionally intense interweavings of character and situational leitmotifs. 

 

An original soundtrack album has been released for all the games. Many have also inspired orchestral, vocal, or piano arrangement albums.

 

The Final Fantasy Piano Collections are beautifully reimagined for the keyboard. As well as being pleasing to the ear, they also provide a real challenge for the technical musician. After many years playing these pieces just for pleasure I decided to attempt some.
